Pala dynasty- Brahmapala (c.990-1010 A.D)

Tyagasingha died childless but the danger of rebellion centering round his heirless death was tactfully avoided by the officers by choosing Brahmapala to the throne. Brahmapala's reign may be placed between 990-1010 A.D. In the epigraph of Ratnapala, Brahmapala is described as a great warrior, though simply called Maharajadhiraja.

The title "Pala" is an abbreviation of the Sanskriti term "Palaka" which means protector, i.e. a ruler of administrator. The Western boundary of Kamrupa kingdom at the time of Brahmapala accession to the throne was therefore again regressed to the river Karatoya. Brahmaputra abdicated the throne in favour of his son Ratnapala.

Ratnapala defeated a king of Gauda named Ratnapala which is evident from an inscription belonging to one of his successors-Gopala. Ratnapala left us Charatbari grant, Bargain grant and Sualkuchi grant.

Indrapala was well versed in Tantrik lore and he left us Gauhati grant and the Guakuchi grant.

Pala dynasty- Dharmapala (c.1095- 1120)

Dharmapala (c.1095- 1120 A.D) was son of Harshapala, who recovered the lost glory of the Kingdom by making conquest in North Bengal and probably towards the sea in the South West of the Kingdom. Three inscription belonging to Dharmapala's reign are found, which speak about his powers and manifold qualities. He was a great patron of religion and learning and himself a poet. The famous Kalika Purana was written under his patronage. Towards the end of his reign, Dharmapala was conducting his administration from his capital at Kamarupanagar, which can be considered only as an extension of the old city of Pragjyotishpur to North Guwahati.

Vaidyadeva suppressed Tingyadeva as well as conquered Kamarupa. Vaidyadeva became the first Gauda ruler to conquer Kamarupa. He assumed the title Maharajadhiraja Paremeswara Paramabhattaraka.

It is not known who succeeded Vaidyadeva. The Tabaquat Nasiri mentions that Prithu or Viswasundaradeva was the king of Kamarupa at the time of the invasion of Bakhtiar during 1205-06.
